 Dan Collis Puro is the driving force behind GeekUprising Internet Consultants. He has a broad range of experience and many talented friends, including programmers, web and print designers, and e-commerce consultants that he can call upon when a project dictates it.
Dan currently works full-time as a web programmer / developer and CTO in addition to being a technical consultant.
Dan has:
- Been a grassroots environmental political organizer,
- Administered a 3.3 million record member database for a non-profit environmental political organization (the State PIRGs),
- Managed, trained, hired, promoted and paid a fund-raising staff of 25 people on grassroots political campaigns,
- Been a scrap yard grunt,
- Worked in a Vermont State park as a ranger,
- Delivering potato chips to retail stores for Humpty Dumpty Potato Chips (?!).
Dan likes what he does now the best. "I was one of those geeks that was latent- I loved hacking code, but never thought I'd enjoy it as a career. However, in every job I had I kept getting pushed more and more to the technical side, until I gave in and went geeky full-time."
Dan has extensive technical experience, including:
- Graphic (print) design,
- Web design and programming,
- Programming perl, mod_perl, PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, the Apache web server, javascript, Visual FoxPro, dBase, Microsoft Access, Linux/Unix shell scripting, and a working knowledge of C, C++, python, and other languages,
- Internet security,
- HTML cross-browser compatibility, usability for the disabled, and W3C compliance,
- And database design, optimization, and maintenance.
Dan's philosophy is "simple is better," for users, for administrators, and for businesses. The best sites are those that get information to users quickly, without relying on graphic "flashiness" over substance.
